Dancing at Lughnasa at the Town Hall Theatre

The Irish play Dancing at Lughnasa, written by Brian Friel, is a 1990 play by dramatist Brian Friel set in Ireland's County Donegal in August 1936 in the fictional town of Ballybeg. It is a memory play told from the point of view of the adult Michael Evans, the narrator. He recounts the summer in his aunts' cottage when he was seven years old.

2010 marks the 107th anniversary of the Galway St Patrick's Day Parade. Pipe bands, dance groups and performance artists come from all over the world to Galway each year to experience a parade that is widely regarded as one of the best in Ireland.

Connemara International Marathon

The Connemara International Marathon is a day of racing around a very scenic part of the West of Ireland. The key to the event's success has been its ability to offer a unique package of experience. The popular sport of long-distance running is transformed for runners and walkers in the dramatic setting of mountains, glacier lakes, rugged green-brown landscape which winds in and around the challenging mountain wilderness of Galway in the west of Ireland. The course meanders past bogs, hills, lakes, and the Twelve Pin mountains rising up over the great expanse of Killary Lough, through the quiet village of Leenane, around the Maam Turk Mountains and all the way back up to Maam Cross. International participants enjoy the Irish welcome, the sense of comradeship on the lonely route and unmistakable buzz throughout the day.

Cuirt International Festival of Literature

The 25th Cúirt Festival will take place in Galway from 20-25th April 2010. The 2009 festival achieved record attendances and received great reviews from writers and lovers of literature alike. Featuring a wide range of Irish and international writers , the festival  has also attracted  well known guests such as J.M Coetzee, Seamus Heaney, Van Morrison and Germaine Greer. The event features readings, book signings, workshops and much more.

Connemara Pony Breeders Society Annual Show

Clifden

Located just 42 miles from Galway, the Clifden Showgrounds draw huge crowds every year when it hosts the Connemara Pony Breeders Society Annual Show. Horse lovers and punters arrive from all over Ireland, to the otherwise sleepy town of Clifden. Besides the equestrian shows, these grounds are also used for community and cultural events, business shows, trade fairs, exhibitions, music concerts and conferences. The logistics are world class and facilities available to organizers and visitors are in plenty.
